It looks like that time has come. You have a lot of painting that needs to get done, and you want to hire some expert residential painting contractors to get it done for you. You just need to get a paint estimate or two, compare the dollars and cents, then pick and go. It sounds simple, right?
Well, it is simple. But, a lot of people still manage to get it wrong, especially if all they look at is the cost quoted to them.
Sure, we all want the lowest bidder. It’ll be better on our wallets! But, will it be better in terms of the job itself? Maybe, maybe not. That depends on a number of factors, a couple of which are highlighted below:
Experience of the Painters
How long have the house painting companies you are looking at been in the business? Do they have many years under their belts? Or are they still wet behind the ears? Experience level will affect the painting estimate that you’re given. It is often worth the extra money if in return you’re getting a lot of experience. Otherwise you might end up paying twice for the job: once to the new guys, then again to the veterans who have to come in and clean up the mess.
Level of Services Offered
What sort of Long Island painting services are the painters offering? Obviously the basic service is going to be painting your home or business. What else will they do for you, though? Will they remove the old paint first? What brand of paint will they be using? How many coats of the new stuff will they apply? Will they properly cover your furniture and mask off areas so that paint doesn’t get everywhere? Will they clean up any spills that might occur? You could get the basic service and then wind up with a one-coat job that needs to get redone after a year or two. Or you could wind up having to clean everything they mess up.
When shopping around for a painting estimate you should be cautious and think of more than just the price tag. A low ball figure might be good in itself, but it’s what comes with the figure that’s more important. If you sacrifice quality for thrift, you will end up hurting in the end.
Whoever you get a paint estimate from, don’t forget to ask for references and then follow up on them. Find out exactly how good or bad each contractor is before you decide.
